Washing is the sound

Stephen Chinnock

11 July 2020

Washing is the sound
on the beach
day and night
Never ending

Bob Marley is the beat
Later at home
Rhythms never ending
Reflecting the patterns
Of real life
Bouncing around my head

So many patterns of beauty
On the south coast
The glossy black cockatoos
Eating casuarina pods
In front of my face

A background of noise
Of the ocean crashing on rocks
The blue so profound
While he chews away
As he must

Enormous stretches of beach
Make my heart sing
Again and again
Never ever ending beauty
Of sea sand and dunes unspoilt

To be in that space is to love
The planet and all of
Its expressions
Variety of beauty

All here on the south coast!
