Imagine
Stephen Chinnock
10 April 2020
We are on a journey
Of self isolation
Not chosen
But enforced
Take the metaphorical hand
Of a trusted companion
Take the long walk
Of pilgrimage
Into the mountains
Of your mind
With a light walking stick
Provisions to starve off hunger
Remembering to gather
Wild fruits and herbs
On the way
Follow those paths
Into the rugged mountains
At a steady pace
Rest and relax
By a mountain stream
Up there ahead
Sits a monk
On a tall peak
Surrounded by pines
Sitting alone
Meditating
Focussing on breathing
Taking in
The majesty of nature
And breathing out
Poems
His verses are clipped
Precise in imagery
Flowing like
The stream observed
Come my partner
Return down the mountain
To our humbled reality
Without despair
