Blackened forest

My heart bleeds for these trees.
Black, upright and indignant
How can this happen to me? They scream.
I cry when I see them, I want to write and do them justice,
But I can't. I am filled with grief.
The fire swept through like an oncoming tide, it took them by
Surprise. What could they do? Rooted and unable to move.
They had to take the heat and the fire and they suffered. Oh did they suffer.
Some are defiant and will return and some will not.
That is the way it is.
I am filled with sadness
I feel their sadness
That is the way it is.
