Adrift on the sea of life

Stephen Chinnock

31 March 2020

We are all adrift
On the sea of life
Floating about
On our rafts
Of self isolation

Waiting for the waves
Of contagion
To sweep through the sea
Upturning some
Into the ocean
And forever forgetfulness

The rest will bob about
As the tide comes
Hopefully recedes
Trying to stay
On the deck
Staying alive
Under duress

At the end of the day
Although not soon
We’ll land on the beach
Sand between our toes again
We’ll dance there
Searching the horizon
For a dawn
Of normality arising

What a celebration of success
And survival will happen then
At the same time of lament
For those who were wrecked
On the sea of life!
