Lake Life

Look up.

2 September 2020

The stars remain.
Light through darkness.
So like recovery.
Light through darkness.

Time helps, time heals.
The day, the night.
Again and again.
Recovery builds.

The stars at night.
Through the darkness.
Darkness of that day.
Recovery builds.

We grow, we strengthen.
We forget, but in reality.
Never do, never will.
The stars remain.

We remain, Why?
It is home, it is hope.
Light through darkness.
Recovery builds.

Every night, so tranquil.
So dark, yet light.
The stars remain.
Recovery builds.

Illusion, Delusion

26 February 2020

A physical blind.
Or all in my mind.
Early morning.
The smoke, our dawning.

Rising, creeping, colour change.
Illusion, Delusion.

Task at hand.
To soak the land.
For days on end.
Water to fend.

Rising, creeping, moving closer.
Illusion, Delusion.

Now flames in sight.
The roar, the might.
Getting so near.
Could the lake they clear.

Too far to jump, Or span, Or reach.
Illusion, Delusion.

I'm still on the deck.
As it continues its trek.
A glance to the right.
The flames give me fright.

It is here, it has jumped.
No bounce nor a bump.
Illusion, Delusion.

Time to go.
Which way to turn.
Heat in the cabin.
Heat my concern.
Calamity, Insanity.

Or simply.

Community, Unity

25 February 2020

Is there a why.
Or did it just happen.
That long day of fright.
That drained all the light.

The heat, the flames.
Escape, the aim.
Breathe, move forward.
The light will return.

The beach, our saviour.
The people, our bond.
Fire still raging.
Yet all stayed so strong.

Darkness that day.
Yet it glowed through the night.
There was strength in our numbers.
And strength in our plight.

And the light did return.
Yet fear it remained.
Unknowns and emptiness.
A vacuum of numbness.

Some lost so much.
And some lost all.
Yet together we stand.
In the face of the pall.

The sun is back.
The colour returns.
Lightness and brightness.
Flowers and ferns.

Wildlife and birds.
To their home they do come.
Their presence a smile.
In the face of the sun.

Recovery, community.
New friends and unity.
Out of the darkness.
Hope, resilience, opportunity.

The lake and the west end.
The north side, Fishos and Berringer too!
The beast is extinguished.
The community shines through.

Lake Life

20 February 2020

Be you resident, retired.
Maybe tourist, first timer.
At the end of the day we are one.

It's inbuilt, it's built in.
It's ingrained, it's ground in.
It's lake life, it's fun in the sun.

From dawn until sunset.
And day in between.
Paradise catches our eye.

Be it boating or floating.
Or swimming or fishing.
You only need look to the sky.

To sit back, to kickback.
To chill out, to relax.
It's all just part of the plan.

The sun streams down on us.
It warms us, it soothes us.
Some use it to work on their tan.

We are open and flowing.
The community glowing.
Low and high tides do abound.

Flatties or lizards?
Just tag em, don't bag em.
Pop em back in so they'll come back around.

The Groms to Green Island.
Great break with
great styling.
And their saltwater bleached blonde hair.

The campers, the glampers.
Big vans and much champers.
All told there is not a care.

The skiers out posing.
Those on the beach dozing.
All look forward to end of the day.

And those that were dozing.
A few drinks they start posing.
Whilst the skiers their bodies do pay.

It's 5 o'clock somewhere.
We're Aussies, we don't care.
Cause we've all heard that one before.

Many families together.
No matter the weather.
We're community through to the core.

I could go on forever.
But you all know the story.
It's lake life, it's fun in the sun.

It's inbuilt, it's built in.
It's ingrained, it's ground in.
It's lake life, and that's why we come.
